Norwich Entertainments Contest
The band have decided to enter the Norwich Entertainments Contest this
year. From the interest weve had from players we will be entering one
band into "A" section. Rehearsals have now started from 8-9pm on
Friday evenings, and it is also planned that a couple of Saturday rehearsals will also be scheduled depending on the progression of the pieces. Just to clarify, the format of the Entertainments Contest is such that we will be performing for around 20
minutes, and the set of music played will include a hymn tune, and a selection of lively pieces.

Solo / Group competition
A Solo and Group competition will be held on the 29th of April in order
for the members of every band to have a chance to perform, either as a
soloist, or part of a group.
Soloists will be grouped by band. CD and piano accompaniment are
allowed. We now have a professional accompianist who will be present on the day and a couple of Fridays before.
We really want to encourage Group performances this year, and therefore
have decided that players may play in as many groups as they like
(duets, trios, quartets, etc). The groups will be assessed by the
bandleaders prior to the competition, and placed into specific sections
when all entries have been received.
Birthday Card Competition
Design a birthday card to be sent to martlesham brass members. As it is the band's 10th birthday this year, this should be included somewhere in the design. Entries to be handed to Caroline King or your bandleader by Friday 21st April. Don't forget to put your name on the back!

Colin & Bruce get trained on "Performing Arts and the Licensing Act 2003."
Colin & Bruce attended the workshop run by Suffolk Coastal District Council on 30/3/06. The objective of the law is to prevent crime & disorder, provide public safety, prevent public nuisance and to protect children from harm. As you can see there are a number of areas where this could apply to Martlesham Brass.
The key message is that licences are required for the sale and supply of alcohol and the performance of live music (among other things). They are not required for 'music incidental to other activities, garden fetes and places of worship.' They are also not required for raffle and tombola bottle prizes. So the majority of our activities either don't need a licence or will be sorted by the organisers of the events we attend. Where we do need a licence we will be applying for a Temporary Events Notice. The Band booking form is being amended to ensure event organisers are covered. If you have any questions about this please ask one of us. More detail can be got from Suffolk Coastal.
