Making music fun in east anglia

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Martlesham Brass has always held her in great esteem and we will miss her dedication and constant care for us.
We have followed her example of making our organisation open and welcoming to all.

We look to the future when we can celebrate her life and that of our new sovereign, King Charles III.

Responsibilities: Running the Main Band. I am also Website Editor for the Band.

Musical History: I started playing the keyboard when I was around 8. A couple of years later I joined the Co-op Music School Ensemble, which used to practice on Saturday mornings at Copleston High School. To start with, this was on percussion, but after I started playing the French Horn in Year 6 of primary school (10/11 years old) I moved to the Brass section (albeit with only three members!)

At Thurleston High School I continued my keyboard and French Horn lessons, and joined the Brass Group there. I was taught brass by Graham Bishop-Hunt - I don't believe I have known a better tutor. From this, I joined the South Suffolk Intermediate Orchestra and was eventually promoted to the the full Orchestra. This allowed me then to progress to the Suffolk Youth Wind Band, which I performed with two years running. The first year we toured to Barcelona, the second in Cambridge - you can no doubt determine which one I enjoyed the most!

During my time at South Suffolk Youth Orchestra I was invited to play at Martlesham Brass, where I took to playing Tenor Horn. It must be stated that Friday nights for many years were a gruelling 5-7:30pm Orchestra rehearsal, then a 8-9:30pm Brass band rehearsal - a total of 4 hours playing in a night!

After sixth form, I was no longer able to play in the Orchestra, so I packed up playing French Horn for a while and concentrated on Tenor Horn.

After three years of missing Orchestral works, I plucked up the courage to join Trianon, who are very good orchestrally. They include a large amount of talented musicians, and perform a couple of concerts each year.

Outside Activities: I try to keep fit by playing squash regularly with the odd interjection of badminton, tennis and football. I'm currently training to run the London Marathon on the 25th of April 2010.
