Making music fun in east anglia

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Martlesham Brass has always held her in great esteem and we will miss her dedication and constant care for us.
We have followed her example of making our organisation open and welcoming to all.

We look to the future when we can celebrate her life and that of our new sovereign, King Charles III.

Martlesham Brass AGM

Our AGM will take place on Friday 3rd February 2006 at St Michael’s at 19.30 hours. The beginners and the Preliminary and Intermediate Bands will have a shortened practice, allowing the AGM to start at 19.30. Immediately following the AGM, the bandleaders will make a presentation outlining their plans for the year ahead. The Main Band practice will start immediately after the AGM, which normally lasts about 45 minutes.

You will all hopefully be aware by now of the tremendous work carried out by the bandleaders on practice nights, at concerts, and at social and fundraising events. You may not however be quite so aware that working hard in the background, and supporting them tirelessly are the members of the Main Committee and Fundraising Committee.

The Main Committee meets on a regular basis, normally the first Tuesday of each month. It’s members make the decisions which affect what direction Martlesham Brass moves in, where, when and on what we spend our money and which events we will organise and take part in throughout the year. The main committee members are elected annually at the AGM. The fundraising committee carry out an equally important role, raising funds and supporting the activities of the band, and members of this committee are also elected at the AGM.

Our constitution, a copy of which will be available between now and the AGM in the foyer, does not normally allow any main committee member to serve for more than a continuous period of 3 years in the same post on the Main committee. All committee members retire from office annually and are subject to re-election at the AGM.

As stated in the October 2005 newsletter, this therefore means that we will be looking for some new faces to join us at the AGM. In particular the posts of chairperson, secretary, treasurer and a parent representative will become vacant as those currently holding these positions will have been in place for 3 years or more. In addition the role of publicity officer for the main committee, and chairperson of the fundraising committee will also become vacant. All committee positions in both the Main and Fundraising committee are open to nominations from our membership which includes parents/guardians.

We are also looking to fill three non-committee posts, which will become vacant: equipment co-ordinator, membership co-ordinator and band librarian.

A nomination form which includes the proposed agenda for the AGM and a notice regarding constitutional changes will be circulated to all families on the 13th January 2006. Completed forms should be returned to Nicol Parker our secretary, or left on the table in the foyer, by Friday 20th January.

The band leaders will speak to each of the bands regarding player representation on the main committee. It really is important these key roles are filled, so if anyone is interested in joining us, or is prepared to consider joining us on the committee next year, please let it be known to any of the current committee members, or in particular to your current parent representatives on the committee, Joy Porter or Colin Hodge.

As a registered charity, all Main Committee members over the age of 18 will automatically become Charity Trustees.
