Making music fun in east anglia

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Martlesham Brass has always held her in great esteem and we will miss her dedication and constant care for us.
We have followed her example of making our organisation open and welcoming to all.

We look to the future when we can celebrate her life and that of our new sovereign, King Charles III.

Brass the Baton

Brass The Baton is an exciting new project for 2012 designed to increase participation in Brass Band Music on a scale never attempted before from a single event. It provides a unique opportunity for brass musicians, and conductors, of all ages and standards, to perform a new music commission as part of a nationwide celebration of brass band music making for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
Brass The Baton is basically a relay involving 5 conductors batons, each representing one of the 5 Olympic rings and coloured accordingly. Martlesham Brass will be starting the relay for the yellow baton at our Spring Concert and Terry Luddington the project director will be present.
The relay race will last for 11 weeks providing 385 potential performance days A special piece of music has been commissioned for Brass The Baton entitled Going The Distance, it comprises 5 distinct flavours that can be performed independently along the route of each baton. The world premiere performance of the complete piece will only occur when all 5 flavours / batons / massed bands of brass musicians come together for the project finale on Sunday 22nd July. Further details on the Brass the Baton relay can be found on the following web site http://mad4bb.ning.com/page/brass-the-baton-overview

Spring Concert

The Spring concert which will be held at St Michaels on the 12th May. Tickets are now available either from Friday practices or on line at the Martlesham Brass web site.

Grand Draw

As part of the Summer Fayre we are again running our Grand Draw. You should by now have received a set of tickets which we would very much like you to sell to your family and friends. There are three headline prizes of £100, £50 and £25 to be won along with many other prizes. The Grand Draw is a key part of our annual fundraising effort so if you are able to sell additional tickets please see either your bandleader or a member of the fundraising committee who will be able to provide you with more. If you are not able to sell all (or any) of your tickets, could you please return them to a Friday practice so that they can be re-allocated.

Summer Fayre

The band Summer Fayre this year will be held on the green outside St Michaels on the 23rd June from 1:00pm until 5:00pm. All of the usual attractions will be on offer including our BBQ, book and cake stalls plus games stalls with fun for all the family.
To celebrate the London Olympics, this year we will also be holding a series of sporting events for all band members. Teams will be based on instrument, rather than by band, so we will have a Cornet and flugel team, a horns, baritone and euphonium team and (best of all) a trombones and basses team. So, come prepared for the Egg and Spoon race, the Dressing up race and all of the other events that we have planned.
Of course all of the Martlesham Brass bands will be playing and we will be performing the Brass the Baton music Going the Distance as a massed band.

As usual we are looking for helpers to make the day go well. In addition to the usual stall manning, we will also need people to help organize our sporting events, so if you have an hour or two to spare we would love to have your help. A volunteers board will be available at Friday practice soon, so sign up and help the band.
